Cyber Cafés and Computer Operators in The Polytechnic, Ibadan held her first general meeting on Thursday, 26th April 2018 at the PAVILION North campus area of The Polytechnic, Ibadan. The meeting was held as a result of the perceived reason that some members of the association have to come together to deliberate on the recommendations of the Central Working Committee of the association. The meeting had in attendance the Registrar Mr. Ezekiel Fehintola, Chief Security Officer Captain Vaughan, Dean Students’ Affairs Dr. T.A Lasisi and other members of the association.

Apparently, the Registrar Mr. Fehintola facilitated with members of the Cyber Café Association that the approval of the association is by the management in which it is stated that it would make it easy for the management to reach out to them when the need arises. He acknowledged the importance of cyber café and computer operators on campus and also persuaded them not to do the work of other group on campus. [adinserter name=”Block 3″][adinserter name=”Block 2″]

A member of the association Mrs. Olatunde Christiana stated the problem concerning the payment of Daily Part-Time students. In her words “the Directorate of DPP students are paying the school fees and are doing the work of Cyber café and computer operators”. Mr. Giwa Adebimpe also added “I did not welcome or accept this association because they do not carry us along. Maybe the management should review the constitution of the association or a committee be set to proclaim the interest of the people’’.

Another member of the association said that the management should put in place the security to their shops and also the high payment of electricity bill is not favourable for them as it varies from one to another. Mr. Sakirudeen insisted that the constitution should be in circulation for recommendation before the final approval. Mr Nafiu Masud also claimed that the students complained about CIDM thereby seeking the Directorate of Student Affairs help in this.

The Registrar Mr. Ezekiel Fehintola responded to all suggestions made by the members of the association by replying that, “students are the cause of the tuition fee payment, though the management also have their lapses but it is minimal”. On the issue of electricity bill, he added that “some years back, the average electricity bill for The Polytechnic, Ibadan was averagely Three Million Naira (#3,000,000.00) but now its average is Fifteen Million Naira (#15,000,000.00).

In addition, the Chief Security in his response to some of the questions on security added that “security of shops is not in the hands of the Department of Security The Polytechnic, Ibadan”. He thereby, implored them to obtain the service of external security.

In same vein, the Dean Students’ Affairs thanked members of the association for their patience before the approval of the association. He also clarified the issue of DPP students’ payment is being resolved. He informed them that the management will look into the matter of students operating cyber café in their hostels. He assured that the students will be persuaded and they will abide by the rules of their association.

The chairman of the Central Working Committee of the association gave his closing remarks as the meeting came to an end.
