PRESS Crew: Can we meet with you Sir?

Deputy Rector: My name is Bayo Oyeleke. A Chief Lecturer in the department of Art & Design and currently the Deputy Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

PRESS Crew: How has it been like combining the work of being a lecturer and that of a Deputy Rector?

Deputy Rector: It has not been easy because the office of the Deputy Rector is a busy office with tight schedule but thank God with the good health God has bestowed upon me to face the challenges there in and to be able to do other works. My work load has been reduced in the area of lecturing because of the enormity of jobs in the office of the Deputy Rector. In actual fact, just because I love to have contact with my students, so I find time. Though I have younger colleagues who are taking charge whenever I am not available, but the The Polytechnic, Ibadan and institution of this nature having just one Deputy Rector, it could be a little cumbersome, because in some other institution, universities and Polytechnics alike, they normally have two Deputy Rectors, one in charge of administration and the other in charge of academics, but I have combined both well. To God be the glory, one has been able to be upon the situation.

PRESS Crew: Concerning the overpopulation we’ve been observing in class Sir, has there been any steps taken by the management to provide conducive environment for larger numbers of student receiving lectures in smaller hall? [adinserter name=”Block 3″][adinserter name=”Block 2″]

Deputy Rector: Thank you very much for bringing up this particular issue. First and foremost, I will like to mention that people should not be deceived by the number of people you see in various classes because not all of them are students. Quite a large number of them are those I can refer to as spectators, because only those who have school fees and registered are regarded as students. But majority of those who have been hanging around in classes only paid the mandatory acceptance fee but hang on paying of school fees, possibly because they have written another jamb, so that if they could secure admission into the University, they can turn to it. Therefore, majority of them form part of the population you are seeing and according to the record. However, we still believe that most of them, after getting the result of their jamb they recently wrote, they will pay their school fee if they could not meet the standard of the University. The institution is already working on some infrastructural facilities. Right now, the construction of two modern 500 capacity lecture theatres, is about to start (which has started as at the time of the publication), though from TETFUND additional drawing studio, 500 capacity for both Engineering and Environmental classes and again by the grace of God, 1981 Set of Accountancy Alumni Association would be laying the foundation of another 1,000 capacity lecture theatre. Also, if you are vigilant, there is a lecture theatre that has just been built around CEC, and equipped and ready for use. So with all these I have mentioned, lack of lecture theatre will be a thing of the past.

PRESS Crew: We want to appreciate you for your time sir.

Deputy Rector: You are welcome.
