The Social Semester, Take Its Advantage!

Of the two semesters in the calendar of Nigeria institutions, second semester is mostly known as Social Semester. Second semester as the name connotes, the second/later of the semester in academic calendar of higher institutions setting in Nigeria is formally referred to as rainy semester probably because as it was initially arrange, larger part of it falls into the rainy season.

Nigerian students particularly have different names used to refer to this second semester which includes; social semester, interesting semester, ceremonial semester, busy semester and the likes.

Second semester is not like the ‘fore’ called the first semester or harmattan semester, second semester comes along with varieties of events aside from the basic academics. Many forms of celebrations, edu-tainment, sport competitions, elections and other form of events. 

It is widely agreed among students that most students usually perform very low in their academics second semester.  The reason cannot be far fetched and this is simply because during second semester, students are easily carried away with the various non-academic activities on campus. Most stalites already have an insight of what second semester comprises of and with that they fully understands the concepts on how their success can be achieved on campus. Surely it is not over until it is over! This second semester can dully upgrade or degrade your result depending on how you want it.

To the freshers, never allow the breeze of social semester take away your purpose of coming to school. Take the advantage of this second semester and let your success speak for you.
