Knowledge Acquisition For The Newly Elected Students’ Union Members

Preceding the induction/Swearing-in of the Students’ Union Executives and Legislative Arm is the One-day Seminar organized by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs held on the 4th of October, 2018 at the North Campus Assembly Hall.

The programme which started around 11am began with an opening prayer and was followed by the introduction of notable officers of the institution. Among who were the officers from the Rectory PA Media headed by Alhaji. A. Sholadoye, the Deputy Registrar (Academics) – Mr A.A. Ogunjimi, Director Health And Medical Centre -, Deputy Registrar (Students’ Affairs) – Mrs A.A. Fawale, Dean Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, Mr. Femi Ipadeola, Mr. Kareem – Head of Department Purchasing and Supply, Faculty Officer, Faculty of Financial Management Studies, Mr A. Tijani – Chief Internal Auditor, Barr. (Mrs) M.O. Oloso -Administrative Officer 2, Registry, representatives from the Central Administration, representatives of the Directorate of Students’ Affairs {Mrs. Ayoade, Mrs. Adegbuyi (Counsellor)} Director Exams and Records department and Members of the Students’ Union Electoral Committee.

Delivering the first speech Mr. Tijani A., the Chief Internal Auditor spoke on the essence of accountability in every process of governance. He further delivered in his lecture that one of the ways in fighting corruption which has eaten deep into our economy is to ensure that there is value for money.

“Money is meant to be spent…yet every money spent must be properly accounted for” . He continued by highlighting the various responsibilities of the Treasurer of the Students Union who holds the primary responsibility of the Officer to maintain the purse of the Union.

Also, Mr. Ogunjimi while delivering his lecture, emphasized and corrected the notion of the name Students’ Union Government be called Students’ Union. “Across the World; Africa, Europe, Asia there is nothing like Students’ Union Government”. Bearing such a name would mean something else entirely.

The Students’ Representative Council may summon a congress if they are unsatisfied with the actions of the executives. The council which stands as the legislative arm are also meant to serve as checks for the Students’ Union Executive.

While delivering his speech, the Dean Faculty of Business and Communications Studies, urged the President and the other members of the government to build a legacy which he termed “Olumo-Legacy“. ” Your value is not about the position you are”. Always remember the word “Influence”. Legacy does not lie in the material things you own said by the Dean FBCS but in the feeling you left in the heart in the people. [adinserter name=”Block 3″][adinserter name=”Block 2″]

Mr. Ipadeola however, ended the lecture by asking the question – Are you leaving a legacy as Olumo Rock or as a Tissue Paper?

Lastly, the final lecture was delivered by Mrs. Fawale representing Barr. (Mrs.) M.O. Oloso – Administrative Officer II, Registry. The paper which was titled Rules Guiding Students’ Conduct in Unionism-Offences and Penalties reads out the constitutional Duties and responsibilities of the students. While quoting the various sections of the constitution making provision for these.

The newly elected president gave his acknowledgement words and above all the Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs gave her appreciation with reference to the management and the students. The programme ended at about 3pm.

Tomorrow 5th October, 2018, the swearing-in of the Executives will come up at exactly 10am Assembly hall North campus.
