What Reading Can Do

Have we ever wondered why the glory of education wanes as the years pass by? Why it seems we are all wasting our time on education since it can not assure us of a colourfully bright life eventually?

Apart from the bad economy, bad leadership, and the best corrupt nation, the failures of education are somehow someway traceable to you and me as individuals. Yes, Us!

We need to, for once, stop vociferating bad governance and management, then look deep down into ourselves. When we say we are educated, are we really educated? Does education mean reading only to pass exams? If our definitions of education do not include making reading a habit and a hobby, then we are wrong. [adinserter name=”Block 3″][adinserter name=”Block 2″]

How I wish we all read as much as we chat on social media nowadays. We would have gone farther than where we are today. Reading is one of the few unexpendable tools we can use to affect the world and better our lives, as it opens our eyes to many things we lack and the secluded opportunities.

Moreover, how can we resist exploitation if we don’t have the tools to understand exploitation?

Someone once said “If you want to hide a thing from a black man, put it inside a book –He will never find it”. Oh, what a slap on our faces! However, no matter how painful the slap is, this assertion is accentuating how lazy we (The Black) are when it comes to reading.

Some lazy ones, to substantiate their laziness and the consequent ineffectuality, always refer to how our past fore-fathers lived peaceful and successful lives without education. But, they have forgotten that things have changed and life is no longer the way it was then. Mr ‘Civilization’ came in, changed everything and has come to stay forever. Therefore, to survive and have an impact in this one world, the tool is READING.
