Mechanical Engineering Department Organizes First Annual Departmental Lecture

It was a day to remember in the history of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as many people gathered at the first departmental lecture organized by Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineer (NIMECHE), The Polytechnic Ibadan Students’ Chapter on Thursday, 28th of March, 2019 at Assembly Hall, South campus of the institution.

In this welcome address, the NIMECHE The Polytechnic, Ibadan Chapter President, Comr. Muftau Yussuf Olalekan congratulated the Stale students for the successful completion of their last academic session and he welcomed the fresh students to the citadel of innovative technology. He further indulged them to take their academics as their priority because success can only be achieved through joint effort. He also urged them to be of good image of the Mechanical Engineering Department.

The first lecture, Ethical Roles and Challenges of Young Professional Engineers in Industrial Development, presented by Engr. Afolabi Oseni. Speaking on the topic, he referred to some people as a wasted generation despite their knowledge and experience that are needed to change the world because they never impacted the young generation. He urged the young engineers to be a researcher, but not only to read and pass, rather acquire the knowledge and wisdom for its application.

Also, he emphasized they should see themselves as potential solutions provider because they are trained to be problem solvers by transferring all the theoretical aspects being taught into practices. He ended that the world is changing everyday with innovative technology, so young Engineers should not be stethoscope minded, because for them to meet up with the global standard, they need to have some required skills such as project management, effective technical report writing, interpretation of organization program, communication, feedback, and also be vast with skills on technology innovation and synergy with different organization. Speaking on the needs for students to have more information on CGPA, the Department Exam Convener, Engr. Adegbayo alluded the fact that the total CGPA is 4.0 and the minimum requirements for National Diploma goes thus elective 21, core 54,GNS 4 while for higher national diploma is elective 17, core 55, GNS 4. Lastly he urged students to take their academics serious and tidy up their registration on time in other to avoid any ugly incident of their results.

The NIMECHE National Students’ Forum President, Comr. Oluwaseun Richard spoke on the need for young Engineers to exhibit ethnical maturity by following the ethnic of mechanical engineering industry by using the right tools for the right job. Also, he urged Engineers to acquired skills in which it we make them meet up with their colleagues in the industry and be able to achieve any opportunity that comes their way.

The lecture which was first of its kind witnessed as many important dignitaries, among which are the piooner chairman NIMECHE Ibadan, Engr. Afolabi Oseni; HOD Mechanical Engineering, Engr. Akeem Ghazali; the former Chairman NIMECHE Ibadan, Engr. Rafiu Salami; Vice Chairman NIMECHE Ibadan, Engr. Ayo Odedele; CEO NSE Engr. Adeyinka Adeniyi; the Department lecturers; National President NIMECHE NSF, Comr. Oluwaseun Richard; NIMECHE NSF National secretary, comrade Mahmud Tijani; SRC representatives; Napes president, Comr. Akorede Ibrahim; NAPES stakeholders; NIMECHE President, Comr. Muftau Yussuf Olalekan, and NIMECHE TPI Executives.

Emanating from the lectures was the fact that the audience was better informed and students were entertained by different artists and the closing remarks was made by Engr. Adio.
